TTW Scratch Vinyl, Monthly Battles, and Encyclopedia

Hey guys, just wanted to update with some of the TTW projects in the works right now, I wanna get the wheels in motion to do some big things in 2014 for turntablists :). As with future TTW community projects, I want to try and keep things as democratic as possible so most of the planning and progress will be on the forums. This way hopefully we get more stuff that people actually want and are going to use. So please, if you’re interested in any of this stuff, sign up to the forum and contribute your own ideas (and please respect others’ ideas as well).

TTW Scratch Vinyl

I’m sure almost every scratcher has dreamed of doing their own scratch record before, but most people either don’t have the time/energy to organize it all, or the funds to get it pressed. So I’m organizing a community scratch record where we all pitch in and put it together as a group. For this one we’re doing a skipless record with about 12 loops per side, and around 12 different people’s loops will be picked. So if you have some sounds you’ve always wanted on record but never had a chance to put them on, get involved! The planning/discussion thread is here:

Monthly TTW DJ Battles

I want to start doing some monthly battles. It’s been done before on other DJ sites, but now with the Scratch Room we have the opportunity to do it a bit different. We’re going to try to set up some real-time, “live”, online battles. So the format is decided in advanced and people get together their routine (or just get practicing if it’s a freestyle battle), and at a certain date/time we do the battle live in the scratch room. I’d like to do some more unique/niche type battles for this rather than the typical “best scratcher” or “best routine”, maybe different themes or different skills like… drum scratching, freestyle juggling, “flip the sample”, only use a certain technique, only use a certain genre, etc.  If this is something you’re interested in, jump on the forum and give your ideas:

Turntablist Wiki

As we speak I’m setting up a wiki for the site, specifically for turntablism. Someone (I think Chile?) brought it to my attention that D-Styles wasn’t in wikipedia and that it cited something like lack of evidence that this person is significant or something. When I read that I thought it was kind of wack that one of the biggest/most influential figures in our scene isn’t even on Wikipedia, not to mention some of the other turntablism articles are downright awful/wrong. So I’m going to make a community-driven wiki here for us to add stuff to and hopefully together we can put together something pretty extensive and informative. So be on the look out for that!

If there is anything else you would like to see in the turntablist scene that you think TTW can do or help with, please post on the forum or send me a PM and if there’s interest we’ll do it!
